Welcome to my website!
Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit more about me and the way I work.
The therapeutic space I offer you is free from judgements, safe and confidential (with some limitations).
I am a relaxed and kind person, I'm not uncomfortable if you swear, cry or need a few moments to collect your thoughts before continuing.

My
Story
A bit about me.
I offer a warm and caring therapeutic relationship to my clients; I'm a person-centred humanistic counsellor and feel that this approach fits with my way of being.
I bring my personality into sessions, am pretty unfazed by most things but do have an expressive face, share lived experiences and bring humour into the room if it’s appropriate. I have a visual mind and will share things, for example “you’re mind is really beating yourself up, I can almost see a little boxer pummeling your brain….” and I am generally direct and precise with my language, I find it helps me to be easily understood.

For me, being respectful, non-judgmental, open and honest is key to the counselling relationship working.

I qualified with a 2:1 Ba (Hons) degree in Counselling, am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and complete Continual Professional Development (CPD) to keep my practice ethical and up-to-date. I am also registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.

My exciting news for Autumn 2025 is that I have been training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy known as ACT as in act, not the acronym. More details further down.

About the way I work.
Sessions are by video call or phone. I’m trained in Person-Centred counselling and Acceptance and Commitment therapy, my style is influenced by my experience of working with those bereaved by suicide or sudden death, where kindness, acceptance, asking direct questions and bringing underlying feelings into the open allows clients to move towards acceptance of their life as it is now, so they can move forward without so many conflicting thoughts and feelings.
I am open, honest, warm, non-judgemental and meet you where you are and walk with you on your path while we unpick the issues that are troubling you. I will not tell you what to do, but will empower you to reach your own decisions and make the changes you would like to.

My Experience
-
I am used to working with raw grief from people in the first few weeks after a sudden death or suspected suicide, and everything that brings with it.
-
Have lived experience of a family member with autism and ADHD and everything that brings.
-
Have a special interest in parenting issues, and the journey to parenthood.
-
I have successfully worked with:
-
~ clients whose country of origin were all over the world, and English was not their first language;
-
~ clients of all major religions, spiritualists and those who have no beliefs;
-
~ clients of all genders and ages 18 and over;
-
~ worked with neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+ and non-binary clients.
-
Have experience and training for counselling people that live with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and understand the anxiety and worries a long-term medical diagnosis can bring.

In my practice, I enjoy exploring links with adult behaviours, thoughts or feelings to childhood experiences, whether they are negative or positive, as once we have the awareness of why we react a certain way, we can work on it.

For me, I see every client as a unique individual and being respectful, non-judgemental, open and honest is key to the counselling relationship working.

The Person-Centred Approach is a talking therapy that does not assign homework and has as its core values that a therapist should be empathic, non-judgemental, genuine whilst being fully present and actively listening as well as recognising that the client is an expert on themselves. I aim to bring all of these aspects to our sessions as well as empowering you to make the changes you would like to.
As I mentioned before, I am training in Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) and am bringing elements into my sessions if I feel it's relevant. ACT originated in Behavioural Therapy, and uses some behavioural interventions but also acceptance, compassion and mindfulness. I find it fits well with my take on person-centred therapy (PCT) because they are both interested in thoughts and feelings, but unlike pure PCT there are some exercises, worksheets and You Tube videos that I will ask you to look at or practice outside of our sessions. We work collaboratively, so discussions about the likelihood of practicing or viewing videos outside of session are open, honest and non-judgemental with realistic goals set as a result.

Practice description
All sessions are delivered remotely by phone or Microsoft Teams (no download is necessary).
My working days are Mondays 10am - 2pm and 8 - 9pm and Thursdays 10am - 2pm and 7- 8pm in the evening, I also offer an evening session on a Sunday, starting at 7pm. Sessions are 50 minutes in length and cost £40, concessions (including students and those on low income, PIP etc) are £25. I ask for payment the day before the session at the latest, although clients are welcome to pay a week in advance or for a maximum of 4 sessions at a time by bank transfer if they wish.

We have a review every 4-6 weeks to see how the therapy is progressing and review your goals/aims.
I also offer clients the opportunity after the initial work has been completed to switch to sessions every 2 weeks. Reducing the frequency of sessions helps a client to feel supported until they are ready to end the sessions. All clients are welcome to come back to me in future, should the need arise.

I know that if you have an illness like MS/FND/Fibromyalgia you may be too fatigued on the day to attend the session and because I ask for payment in advance, you may feel that you can't commit. Please be reassured that I am understanding and if you have paid and are unable to attend at short notice, you only have to send me an email and we will reschedule for another day and you will not have to pay again. Same goes for certain other situations so please contact me to discuss your personal circumstances in more detail.
My first session
Before our first session I will email over a copy of the Contract for you to read, it has my bank details on for the payment, and I will confirm receipt and the session.

The first session lasts up to 60 minutes (at no extra charge) to complete a registration form, using an outcome measuring tool, finding out what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve from the sessions, some people have a goal, some don’t and that’s okay.
If you feel that we could work together, you will be asked to sign or email agreement and return the contract.
After 4-6 sessions, we will have a review, repeat the outcome measuring tool, discuss how you feel things are going.
Depending on needs, clients can have anything from 2-32 sessions or more if required.
